I’ve worked as an editor for over 35 years, editing and producing documentary, educational, corporate and broadcast video. A year ago I created Malka Shaindel Productions LLC, specifically to produce four short films about my parents’ experiences.
The first film, A Mother’s Heart, is completed and ready for screenings and distribution.
Gary Coates has been a motion picture color finisher since 1975 in the film labs, telecine houses, and his own digital cinema office serving the Northern California independent filmmaking community.
Paul Zahnley is best known as a creative technician whose passion is film. During his more than 20 years in the industry, Paul was nominated for a CAS award in 2013 and an Emmy in 2007 and was also inducted into the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) in 2001 for his many film credits.
For over two decades, Tom Disher has composed and arranged award winning music for Film, TV, and Interactive Media. He has owned and operated Disher Music & Sound since 1992. Since that time, he has mixed more than 200 films, countless hours of TV, and thousands of commercials.
David Weissman is a non-fiction filmmaker specializing in films about scientific research that uses advanced technical simulation and AI. His other passion is story consulting and technical support for documentary makers. He has also provided film finishing services for several Academy Award nominated films.
Jennifer Petrucelli has worked in documentary film for more than 20 years. She served as a producer, writer and researcher in George Lucas’ Documentary division at Lucasfilm, working on dozens of historical documentaries. In 2014, she went on to co-found Sub-Basement Archival, where she has served as an archival producer for numerous award winning films.
An internationally acclaimed pianist, composer and humanitarian, Keiko Matsui has worked with everyone from Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Bob James and Hugh Masekela.
Keiko generously offered to compose this original song for A Mother’s Heart. “When I hear of a cause that resonates with me that I can dedicate my music to, then I am always willing. It is my way to show gratitude and give back.”
Creating A Mother’s Heart has been a profound journey of responsibility and reverence. These are not just stories –they are sacred memories entrusted to me by those who lived through unimaginable suffering.
As our world takes a dark turn towards authoritarianism, I feel an urgent need to share their stories, to show what happened when fascism arrived at my own family’s doorstep. The striking parallels between the current events unfolding in our country are both frightening and serve as a cautionary tale. It’s critical that we take actions to protect the vulnerable, speak the truth, and resist fascism.
